Funeral Services
Personalizing The Services : Traditional Funeral Services : Cremation Services
At Shaughnessey- Banks Funeral Home, we realize that every family we serve is unique. Our staff is committed to making each service truly reflective of the life that has been lived, while acknowledging the loss that has occurred. We provide a variety of funeral choices that will fulfill your family's individual and personal wishes. While the traditional funeral meets the needs of some, others find meaning in a personalized and unique funeral service that celebrates their loved ones hobbies and interests.
Prior to reviewing different options available to you, please note that ritual is important and healing to the survivors of anyone who has died. Sometimes, people state that they want no services, but you need to know that it no longer is just about the person who has died, but rather how the survivors will go on and adjust to the person's death.
Personalized Services
Our advice to you as funeral professionals is to make sure that whatever service you select that it be tailored to celebrate the life of your loved one. We encourage personalization through the use of photographic collages, displays of personal memorabilia, and musical selection. Also, by using family photographs, we can design a personal video tribute DVD that can be played during the wake, and would be yours to keep.
Please feel free to note that you may elect to do anything that is right for you, whatever that may be at the funeral home. However, services held in the church must conform to the teachings of the church and certain guidelines must be followed. This means that you do not always have the ability to customize the service in many churches. Our staff is familiar with the different traditions of the various faiths, ethnic groups, and fraternal organizations in our area. Therefore, we encourage you to share your ideas, and wishes with us so that we can be helpful in creating a lasting tribute to your loved one.

Funeral Services
The funeral service is a symbolic means of expressing our beliefs and feelings about the death of someone we love. It helps us acknowledge the death, and express our grief. A funeral also helps provide a support system for family and friends in a time of need.
Traditional Funeral Service: refers to services that include visitation one day prior, funeral service at church, or in the funeral home, and a graveside committal service at the cemetery.
Visitation: The visitation period or wake service (usually 2-4 hours) allows for family and friends to come together to provide support to each other and mourn the person who has died. In this fast paced world, it is necessary to take "time out" to mourn the person who has died and acknowledge their death. In addition, it is therapeutic to listen to stories about the deceased that you would have never heard if it were not for those people who come to relate these stories to you. The body is usually present.
Private Visitation: The family usually decides to view the deceased person on a private basis by family members or by those you would like to invite.
Memorial Service: A memorial service can be held in a church or the funeral home and is usually conducted without the body of the deceased present. The goal of this service is to celebrate the life of the person lived. Given that the body is not present, you may want to personalize the ceremony with personal mementos, personal stories of the deceased, etc.
Graveside Service: When someone is interred (full burial of a casketed body, or the ashes of someone who was cremated), normally one has a graveside service. Most times, a graveside service is conducted by a member of the clergy together with family and friends. Once again, it is important to honor the deceased in ritualistic way.
Direct Burial: This service is involves a burial of the casketed body with no funeral ritual.

CREMATION SERVICES
Cremation offers a wide variety of choices, from a simple gathering to an elaborate, traditional ceremony. No matter what you choose, our funeral directors will help create an experience that fits the needs of your family. Our funeral home is available for different types of services, from traditional religious ceremonies to contemporary gatherings.
Traditional Cremation Service: A traditional cremation service usually includes a viewing or gathering one day prior, a formal funeral service (at the funeral home, local church or other venue) and any necessary transportation services. Floral tributes are often displayed, and we encourage our families to bring photographs and other memorabilia to further personalize the service.
Contemporary Gathering: Similar to the visitation in providing support to the family however, the deceased person is not present for the service. If the person has been cremated, you may wish to have an urn on display with pictures to portray the person's life
Memorial Service: A Memorial Service may be planned at the funeral home or at a location of your choice. This option is similar to a traditional service; however, the body of the deceased is not present.
Graveside Service: A graveside service is a service of remembrance held at the burial site or columbarium where the cremated remains are interred. This can be arranged separately or in conjunction with a viewing or memorial service.
Direct Cremation: The deceased is cremated with no funeral ritual.
